Choose a template for your work
Freelance templates help organize hourly work or fixed-price projects. Contractor templates separate labor, materials and project stages. Start with the layout closest to your billing task, then adjust the details for the client and job.

What should an invoice template include?
A complete invoice answers your client's questions before they ask. These are the fields in every AllScale template, numbered on the example below.
- 1
Your business details
Your name and email are required. Add an address and phone number if your client needs them.
- 2
Your client's billing details
Use the client name and email that match your contract or purchase order.
- 3
An invoice ID
Generated when you create the invoice. Use it to match payments to the right document.
- 4
A due date
Tells your client exactly when payment is expected.
- 5
Itemized lines
One line per service or product, with a quantity and an amount for each.
- 6
Discount, tax and tax number
Show any discount and tax as separate lines, and add a tax number where your client needs one.
- 7
The total amount due
Calculated in USD from your line items, discount and tax.
- 8
A note with payment instructions
Add payment terms, a project reference or anything else your client should know.

Totals worked out for you
Enter quantities and amounts, add any tax or discount and review the USD total. There are no spreadsheet formulas to break.
A preview while you edit
Fill in the form online and check the preview as you work, before you create the invoice.
An invoice ID on every invoice
An invoice ID is generated when you create the invoice, so each document is easy to find in your records.
A clean PDF to share
Every invoice uses the same clear layout, ready to print or send to your client through your preferred channel.
When a template is the wrong tool for the job
A template works when you invoice now and then. Once invoicing becomes part of how you get paid every week, a PDF stops keeping up. Consider an invoicing product when any of these apply to you.

Invoice templates, explained
Are the templates editable?
Yes. Open a template, replace the example details with your own and check the preview as you go. Templates are currently available as PDF downloads only, so make your changes online before you create and download the invoice.
Which template works for hourly services?
Start with the Freelance template. Enter the hours worked as the quantity and your hourly rate as the amount, then replace the example details with the work you performed.
Can a template collect a payment?
No. A template records billing details, and the PDF it creates does not process a payment. To send a payable invoice and track its payment status, use AllScale Invoice.
